Dear Members,

The ASA January Newsletter is already out.  Sign up to receive the ASA Newsletter in your inbox here.

For anyone still unaware, your ASNY membership automatically gives you membership to the American Society of Acupuncturists (ASA), a national organization composed of state associations.  This is another great reason to maintain your membership with ASNY. Recently, the ASA announced a 10% discount on liability insurance from CM&F for ASNY/ASA members through our ASA membership – check out the details here. Also, here are some of the public education materials we have shared and used in the recent past that have come from the ASA. But wait, there is so much more!

To learn more of about the extraordinary work done by the ASA on your behalf, take a look at the ASA Year in Review 2018 and see what your ASA colleagues have been up to and have accomplished in the last year. Learn what is happening globally and nationally. Also, be sure to visit the section by state and learn of goings-on near and far. We have much to be proud of as members of our state and national organization!

And finally, a reminder.  You are cordially invited to attend a momentous event in DC, the ASA’s Inaugural Conference. This is a BIG DEAL to have our profession highlighted at the national level! Please consider attending part of this event or all three days. We would love for New York to be well represented.

ASA’s Inaugural Conference held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel on Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, 2019 will focus on sessions that highlight our current involvement in healthcare.  This includes current barriers to access and strategies to remove them, business management, research, and advocacy training for a day on Capitol Hill with your elected officials. On Monday, June 3rd, we are planning a day of congressional briefings, demonstrations of acupuncture, and a Health Fair on Capitol Hill.  Please join us for these exciting events!  Our Health Fair will offer an opportunity to educate more broadly on all the tools of our medicine. Let us know if you plan on attending the Inaugural Conference so we can meet up in DC!

Also, please note that members of ASA member state associations can serve on ASA committees.  Currently, members are sought for 3 vacancies on the Nominating Committee to serve beginning in March 2019  (current continuing members: Candace Sarges (Chair- NJ), Michelle Wright (NY)  and Sarah Prater (TN). This committee is tasked with vetting state organizations for entry into the ASA, seeking and vetting potential ASA board members, and policy development around these tasks.  For any ASNY member interested in serving on this committee, please contact Candace Sarges at and please submit a CV.

Thank you for your continued support!

All the best,

The ASNY Board of Directors
